Mandatory Swim Testing

Posted by dpaolino on Apr 30 2019 - 3:32pm

We held our first swim test at the beginning of the month and we had about 70% of the troop get tested.  I just got notified that some lanes have freed up for a date I had requested before, which is Sunday, May 5th from 4-6.  If you did not get tested on April 7th and are planning to attend any of the water-related activities coming up, you need to come.  I have attached the original note below, updating the dates but the information still applies. ALL ADULTS MUST COME IN AND SIGN A WAIVER FOR YOUR SCOUT.  We had several just drop at the first testing date, and they had to be called to come back to the pool.  We will only be testing Scouts, we will not be working on requirements (at this time).

Swim tests are required for all water-related activities in Scouting and are good for one-year.  If you plan to go on any of our many future activities that involve water, from our May Sailing outing, August Canoe outing, or September Whitewater outing, to either Summer Camp, or to participate in the End-of-Year Trip (which will probably have a water component), or Sea Base this year, you must attend.  Also all NEW scouts should be participating to allow them to work on the swim requirements that will be needed for rank advancements.  Please note that this includes ADULTS so any adults planning to help out at summer camp or any of the outings above should attend.  Yes we have a number of water related activities in 2019.

EOYT (Sea Kayaking)

Posted by dpaolino on Apr 27 2019 - 8:13pm

The 2019 EOYT will be a 5 day Sea Kayak Trek at Pamlico Sea Base, in Blounts Creek, NC. Scouts who attend this trip will enjoy sea kayaking along the Outer Banks and seeing the many manmade and natural sights this beautiful region has to offer. Scouts will have the opportunity to sail the seas on a 15ft Kayak. We will depart on June 16th, and return on June 20th. There is a maximum of 14 spots available, so sign up soon!  To go on this awesome trip, scouts must have turned 13 by January 31st of 2019, and will be First Class before we depart for the trip.
